Cloud computing 101 for Businesses
The disruption of cloud computing to the IT channel
our facilities
utilising worldwide points of presence
ThinkGrid uses Tier 3 & 4 data centre facilities to act as points of presence (POPs) which serve local regions with the lowest possible latency services. Currently we are present in 4 data centres in the UK and US, with full redundancy between sites using the latest virtualisation technologies.

Tier 4 carrier neutral data centres
Our facilities have minimum specs as follows:
Commercial Power
  • Two separate power feeds provided
  • Power supplied from two separate substations. Four transformers at 3,750 KVA each.
  • Four PDUs (power distribution units) each having primary and backup.
  • CPS (continuous power supply) that serves each data room (N+1).

  • Generator
  • Building can operate at 100% connected load on five HiTecs and two standby generators.
  • Six PowerWave 'state-of-the-art' UPS systems continuously generating power for N+1 redundancy.
  • The PowerWave system feeds redundant switchgear providing power to mission critical loads.
  • Two 2-megawatt standby generators serve facility essential loads. N+1 capacity.
  • One 2-megawatt stationary load bank, for bypass testing and duty cycle maintenance.

    DC Power System
  • 1600 AMP redundant DC battery system.

    Diesel Fuel Supply
  • 20,000 gallons on-site. Facility is on the emergency fuel list.

    HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning)
  • 3,350 tons total refrigeration capacity with N+2 redundancy (5 chillers at 670 tons each).
  • 30-ton CRAC (Computer Room Air Conditioner) units inside our data room.
  • Five cooling towers
  • Five chilled water pumps
  • Five condenser water pumps
  • Five chemical treatment stations

    Fire Suppression
  • Dry pipe, pre-action system enabled by activation of VESDA (Very Early Smoke Detection Alarm) and / or smoke detectors. Loss of air pressure in the pipes caused by a broken sprinkler head will cause water to discharge only if smoke detection is present. The system is monitored 24x7 by onsite personnel.
