How does Hosted VDI work?
Using a hosted desktop is no different from using a regular PC. You can print to your printer at home or in the office and install software and customise your desktop just as you would with your normal computer. The only difference is that the data and operating systems are running on our powerful infrastructure and being presented to you remotely. You interact just as with a normal desktop, you can even synch your iPod if you like. All you need is an internet connection at your location or, if you're on the road, you can use a 3G USB stick.

Hosted desktops challenge the ’traditional’ desktop PC in the office environment and reduce the cost of providing the services you need. Your hosted desktop is accessible by a secure internet connection from any PC or laptop or, for maximum savings, from a specialised thin client. The virtue of hosted desktops is that ThinkGrid manages, backs up and looks after the environments and because they’re running on highly available, Grid technology they come with 99.99% availability, 24/7 UK support and almost infinite additional power and resources available at the touch of a button.

Connecting to your Hosted Desktop
Hosted desktops are streamed, from our datacenters, to the remote terminals using industry standard encryption to ensure that data cannot be viewed by external parties. Local mouse movements and keystrokes are then seamlessly relayed to the datacenter using the same encryption protocols. This means that hosted desktops don’t require huge internet bandwidth as no processing power is taking place over the internet, it’s just simple screen scrapes and keystrokes being transmitted. As the data itself never leaves the datacenters, this means that if a desktop is accessed from, say, an internet cafe, there is no possibility that data could be retrieved by someone else once the session has been terminated.

The only other thing you need to connect to your desktop is your log-in and password, ThinkGrid’s technology does all rest of the work for you.
